Working past 65

Before you delay Medicare or start it, check what your job's coverage really allows.

Ask the employer's benefits office two things: does this coverage come from a job someone still works at, and - once you are 65 - who pays your bills first, the plan or Medicare. The employer's size, and any payments into a health savings account, can change what you need to do.

COBRA - staying on a former job's plan for a while - and retiree coverage do not follow the same rules as coverage from a current job.
